What is "Not Funny"?

What is it?

"Not Funny" is a photographic portrait series that captures comedians in a different light, quite literally. Known for their humour and ability to make others laugh, these individuals are depicted in a more serious and contemplative manner. Each portrait in this series is a study in contrast, showing the vulnerability and depth behind the laughter.

The intention behind "Not Funny" is twofold. Firstly, it aims to challenge the viewer's perception of these comedians, inviting them to see beyond the laughter and recognise the complexity of their emotions and experiences. Secondly, the series serves as a platform to raise awareness about depression and mental health issues, a cause that is particularly poignant within the creative industry.

Through this exhibition, we seek to start conversations about mental health, encourage empathy and understanding, and support the important work of Beyond Blue. By showcasing these serious portraits of funny people, we hope to inspire reflection, compassion, and action towards creating a more supportive and inclusive society.
